e-mail from Michelle Betty:
Today I'm celebrating my 31st birthday with family and friends.I look back over the last year with deep gratitude, and I look forward to another year working to make our city better for families in every neighborhood.
For the last few years on my birthday, I have asked many of you to consider supporting one of my favorite organizations--Birthday Wishes--and this year, I'd like to keep the tradition. Birthday Wishes mobilizes grassroots volunteers to host birthday parties for homeless families in shelters, motels, and transitional housing. In 2015, they helped over 32,000 homeless children celebrate birthdays in shelters and agencies, and their goal is to reach 34,000 children in 2016.
A few weeks ago, we celebrated my son Blaise's first birthday. He's too young to understand all that was happening, but his little face glowed from all the love and special attention. Every child deserves to feel special and loved. I hope you'll support an organization that helps Boston children in need feel celebrated, too.
Thousands of children in our city's shelters don't get to celebrate because the cost of cake, balloons, and presents. On my birthday, I am asking that you consider helping a kid in need feel special on theirs. If you agree that every child deserves to be celebrated and feel special on their birthday, please consider making a donation to Birthday Wishes. Thank you for your support, and for the many ways you help make Boston a better place.
