(By News Chinatown) Quincy Medical Center (QMC) presented its Leadership in Healthcare Award to Senator John F. Keenan (left in photo) for his leadership in the advancement of healthcare policy and his commitment to the hospital. John N. Kastanis，QMC’s Interim CEO, presented the award to Sen. Keenan at the Quincy Medical Center medical staff’s evening of appreciation, thanking him for his leadership and advocacy on behalf of Quincy Medical Center.

(By News Chinatown) Quincy Medical Center (QMC) medical staff presented the 2011 Frederick C. Dolgin, MD, Award to Charles Rippberger, MD, of Sharon, MA. The Dolgin Award is presented annually to a QMC physician, clinician or staff person in recognition of exceptional service and a lifelong commitment to improving the health of the community.

Dr. Rippberger is the Chief of Medicine and Medical Director of Geriatrics at Quincy Medical Center. He has been a member of the Quincy Medical Center medical staff since 1982 and serves as medical director for a number of local skilled nursing facilities. His expertise in geriatric in medicine has been instrumental in the development of Quincy Medical Center’s Center for Healthy Aging, which provides a continuum of programs and services geared specifically to best meet the specialized needs of patients over the age of 65.

The Frederick C. Dolgin Award was established in 2004 in recognition of Dr. Frederick Dolgin, a QMC-affiliated physician who served as Medical Director of Manet Community Health Center for more than 20 years.

Physician of the Year

(BY News Chinatown)Jose Varghese, MD, of Boston, has been named Quincy Medical Center (QMC) Physician of the Year by the medical staff at Quincy Medical Center. The Physician of the Year Award is presented to the QMC physician who is voted by the QMC staff-at-large to best represent the hospital’s mission of providing the highest quality health care services in a personal, warm and compassionate manner for all residents of the community. Dr. Varghese is Chief of Radiology at QMC and has been on staff since 2005. This is the second time he has been bestowed this honor.
